ACTIVITIES OF JWWA
GENERAL ASSEMBLY
The general assembly is JWWA's supreme decision making organ and is held once in the fall every year.
The most important items on the agenda are (1) awarding of the JWWA President's prizes (2) reporting on JWWA's activities (3) the approval of the budget and the settlement of accounts for the current
fiscal year and (4) discussion of important and imminent issues confronting water works which are raised by members. TO DEAL WITH ISSUES RAISED BY MEMBERS
When the general assembly decides that an issue should be solved by the Government, strong requests and petition are made to the Government and the Diet.
As for matters which JWWA can deal with, each Standing Committee(Management, Engineering, Water Sanitation and Inspection) will be entrusted to do research on them. Based on the findings, actions on these matters will be taken.
DRIVES TO OBTAIN GOVERNMENT BUDGET ALLOCATIONS FOR WATER SUPPLY
The Board of Directors and the Policy Committee take charge of powerful lobbying and petitioning to the Government and the Diet, while corporate members individually make lobbying efforts to the locally elected Diet members.
SPECIAL ASSEMBLIES FOR NATIONWIDE WATER WORKS DEVELOPMENT
When national budgets are being drawn, a lot of Diet members and government officials concerned are invited to this annual assembly. Requests for budget allocations related to water supply are discussed and decided and supports from the Diet members are sought.
JWWA RESEARCH CONFERENCE AND SYMPOSIUM
Officials of the central and local governments, staff of research institutes, including universities, water suppliers and manufacturing companies related to the water supply industry are requested to assemble once every year to present and discuss the results of their daily research and studies.
The contents of the symposium are mainly related to management, planning, water resources, water intake, purification, transmission, distribution, service installation= mechanical and electrical equ,ipment, instrumentation, water quality management and countermeasures against disasters.
In addition to the research presentation mentioned above, a special lecture, symposium and forum are arranged to discuss current topics of particular interest to the sector.
